It’s the holiday season.

From the mesmerizing glow of the tree-lighting ceremony to the harmonious melodies of Christmas at Augustana, each tradition adds a unique touch to the season. Here are a few of our favorites:

Christmas at Augustana presented by Quad City Bank & Trust

Christmas at Augustana has been a holiday tradition for more than a decade for Augustana and the Quad-Cities community.

Three hundred student musicians showcase their talents during this event, culminating in a musical extravaganza. The concert includes performances by various ensembles, including the Augustana Brass Ensemble, Ascension Ringers, Augustana Symphony Orchestra, Augustana Choir, Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble, and Augustana Concert Chorale.

Festival of Sankta Lucia

Festival of Sankta Lucia

The Festival of Sankta Lucia is a cherished holiday tradition that brings the campus community together in a celebration of light. This annual event pays homage to the college’s Swedish cultural heritage. Sankta Lucia, also known as Saint Lucy, is a symbol of light and hope during the dark winter months.

Each year, a student is selected to portray Lucia by wearing a crown of seven candles and leading a procession. Attendees sing traditional St. Lucia songs and other traditional Swedish folk music.

Christmas Tree Lighting

The Christmas Tree Lighting is a favorite holiday tradition that marks the beginning of seasonal festivities on campus. Each year, the campus community gathers outside Old Main to hear about holiday traditions from around the world, enjoy snacks and festive music. The lighting of the tree is a symbolic gesture that brings students, faculty and staff together, fostering a sense of shared celebration for the holidays.

As the holiday spirit fills the air, we extend our heartfelt wishes for much cheer and happiness throughout this joyous season. May the traditions we hold dear continue to bring light and warmth to all.
