Go Greek at Augie!
I had the best experience rushing at Augustana. Even though I had an idea of what sorority I was most interested in, I went into the entire process with an open mind. I hope sharing my experience will help others consider going Greek!
I really loved Augie’s rush process because it’s so different from the fast-paced rush experience at larger institutions. Greek life is much more personal and community-focused here, which allows you to truly connect with the people you meet. Even now, whenever I see someone I got to know during rush on campus, I always make a point to say hello or stop and chat. It makes Augustana feel like a close-knit community and a true home away from home.
I also enjoyed both the informal and formal stages of rush. During informal rush, you get to meet all of the groups, either sororities or fraternities. It’s a laid-back event where you can interact with members from each group, and sometimes they offer snacks and drinks. You might even be serenaded with one of their special Greek life songs. I really liked this part of the process because it helped me get a clearer sense of which group and community I wanted to join.
Pledging was definitely the most challenging part of rushing, but it was also a huge learning experience. Working with a group of girls you don’t know well can be tough at first, but the experience is truly rewarding once you push through. The activation period was my favorite part – it’s when pledging ended, and our pledge class was officially welcomed into the sorority. We celebrated all week long!
I am so grateful for the amazing girls who helped me through the pledging process. There were definitely highs and lows, and there were times when I wanted to give up. But the friends I made along the way are some of the kindest and most incredible people I know.
After being a member of Phi Rho sorority for a year, I can honestly say I am so thankful for my sisters. My favorite Phi Rho memory so far was our performance at Sing during homecoming when we placed second. Being a Phi Rho has taught me so much about leadership, maturity and friendship.
I hope this helps you to decide to go Greek at Augustana!
