So you're coming to fall visit day

I think I can speak on behalf of every single person on campus when I say that we’re so excited to have you join us for Fall Visit Day! It’s the perfect to learn more about what Augustana College has to offer, PLUS our campus looks great in fall colors.

If you’re wondering what to expect from this big visit day, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered from start to finish.

8:45 am - Check-in & Opportunities Fair
Kick off your day by letting us know you’ve made it to campus! Check-in will be at the Roy J. Carver P.E. Center (3500 5th Ave) from 8:45 am to 10:00 am. This is where you’ll get an Augustana folder full of useful information and an updated schedule of the day’s events.

If you arrive early, you’ll have a chance to check out the Opportunities Fair and grab some free continental breakfast. There will be a bunch of student organizations there, so take advantage of this time to interact with current students and maybe find a club or group that excites you in the process.

Tip: have your QR code pulled up on your phone when you arrive to make check-in go as quickly as possible.

10:00 am - Welcome Address
The President of Augustana College, Steven Bahls, and our Executive Director of Admissions, Karen Dahlstrom, will both speak during the welcome address. Expect a lot of energy, useful information and Augustana pride.

If something stands out to you during the address, don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to Karen or President Bahls and let them know. They both love to talk to prospective students and can answer any questions you might have.

10:45 am - Academic Session
Next you’ll have an opportunity to meet at least one Augustana professor who teaches in the field you’re most interested in studying. This is your chance to ask questions about coursework, get more information about the department and learn about major/minor requirements.

Academic sessions are located all around campus and it’s easy to get turned around sometimes, so be sure to follow whoever is carrying a sign with your intended field of study listed on it.

Not every academic department will have an academic session, but you’ll have plenty of options. You can find out which departments will be available on our event page.

Tip: If you’re not sure what you want to study, or if you’re interested in more than one field, pick the one that sounds most interesting. After the visit day is over, you can reach out to the Admissions department to get the contact information for the professors whose sessions you missed. If you can’t narrow it down or don’t know where to start, try the “Exploring Majors for Undecided Students” session.

11:30 am - 2:00 pm - Admissions and Scholarship Process, Campus Tour, and Lunch
By this time, I’m sure your stomach is grumbling because mine always is! But, before grabbing some grub in our dining hall, we’ll briefly talk about the admissions process and financial aid.

If you’re wondering about deadlines, how you’ll fund your education, or about our admission expectations/requirements you’ll want to pay close attention, and feel free to reassure your parent or guardian that note taking is normal. My mom brought a five subject notebook to this session. Talk about extra!

Okay, let’s talk lunch. There’s no universal lunch time for the day, but you can expect to eat sometime between noon and two o’clock. Some people will eat before touring, others will eat at the end of the tour or you might have a lunch break in the middle of a tour.

We do this to control dining hall traffic and keep lines short. You’ll thank us when the time comes because the food is spectacular. If you haven’t eaten at Augustana yet, you’re in for a real treat! Be sure to take time to explore all EIGHT buffet stations and see what’s on the menu for the day.

Tip: Visiting students eat FREE and it’s always buffet style, so eat all you like.

1:30 pm - 2:00 pm Wrap-Up Reception with Admissions
At the end of an exciting day, we want to be there for you if you have unanswered questions, need clarification, or simply want to meet your admissions counselor in person. You can drop by Wrap-Up to do just that!

Wrap-up is also a great time to do some of the things you didn’t have time for during the day. Take some pictures in front of Old Main or in the quad, exchange numbers with people you met during the event, or purchase some spirit wear so you can show off your Augie pride back home.

Also, feel free to take a nice stroll around campus and see parts of campus you may have missed on the tour.

And that’s just some of the excitement to expect from Augustana’s Fall Visit Day! It’s going to be an incredible day, and I can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself.
