History talk: 'The Allure of Lustron'
Brandon Tidwell of Augustana's Office of Human Resources will present a talk, "The Allure of Lustron: The Story Behind One of America's Most Iconic Prefab Homes."
Description: "As GIs returned from WWII by the thousands, the government was faced with an affordable housing shortage. Moline native and entrepreneur Carl Standlund seemed to have just the solution with his prefabricated "Lustron" home, made completely of steel. The need was great, skilled workers were plentiful, and there seemed to be surplus of needed supplies for the job, what could possibly go wrong?"
History talks are held monthly by the Rock Island Preservation Society at the center.
