My Story: Surviving the Holocaust

Steen Metz will speak about his life experience in advance of the Augustana performance of the opera "Brundibar." This children's opera by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása was written in 1938 but was not performed until 1942 when it premiered at the Vinohrady Jewish Boy’s Orphanage in the Prague ghetto.

Metz and his family were arrested and deported to the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp from their home in Odense, Denmark. He was 8. Some 15,000 children passed through Theresienstadt. He is one of fewer than 1,500 who survived.
