Lane Evans Forum: Election 2020: Putting People First
Lawmakers, activists and others will gather at a forum in honor of the late Congressman Lane Evans of Rock Island, who represented the Illinois Quad Cities for 24 years. Evans, who died in 2014, was a 1974 graduate of Augustana college.
President Barack Obama has prepared a special video greeting for the gathering, which will include U.S. Rep. Jan Shakowsky, D-9th, former senator and presidential candidate Fred Harris of Oklahoma, columnist and political activist Jim Hightower, William McNary, co-executive director of Citizen Action/Illinois, and Thomas Frank, author of "What's the Matter with Kansas?"
Registration begins at noon, and the program at 1 p.m.
The forum is sponsored by the Lane Evans Legacy Project, Augustana College Democrats, and Quad Cities Interfaith.
Evans was the first Democrat to be re-elected in the 17th Congressional District of Illinois since the Civil War.
