Javier Ávila: 'The Trouble with My Name'
Dr. Javier Ávila will present his one-man show "The Trouble with My Name," a one-of-a-kind presentation about the value of diversity."
The public is invited to attend.
"The Trouble with My Name” sheds light on issues of language, race and equity. Dr. Ávila blends comedy and poetry in a culturally rich performance to provide an authentic perspective into the lives of American Latinos as they dispel misconceptions about their identities and place in the world.
He is the only Latino to be named Pennsylvania’s Professor of the Year. His best-selling novel "Different" was made into a movie entitled "Miente."
He is the recipient of the Cultural Arts Award given by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education, and numerous literary awards, including the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture Poetry Award and the Pen Club Book of the Year Award.
His books include the novels "The Professor in Ruins," "The Oldest Profession," "Polvo," and several poetry collections.
This program initiates the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at Augustana College, and is sponsored by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Unit.
