Out of Darkness: 'Two Remain'
"Two Remain," a two-act chamber opera, is based on the true stories of two Holocaust survivors, conducted by Ernesto Estigarribia, Augustana director of orchestral activities.
In Act I, Krystyna Żywulska, assisted by ghosts of Auschwitz, shares her story of survival with a journalist. In Act II Gad Beck is haunted by his first love, the poet Manfred Lewin, who perished in Auschwitz.
The performance is part of a community-wide project, Out of Darkness: Holocaust Messages for Today, a Quad Cities community project that includes programming for children and adults to promote dignity, diversity, equity, democratic values, human rights, and the power of the human spirit.
