Webster Vocal Competition

Through the Webster Vocal Competition, monetary awards are presented annually to voice students in pursuit of a vocal career. Faculty judges select winners in two divisions at this award recital.

The competition is named in honor of former Augustana student Steven Boone Webster, a film industry musician who worked for Universal Studios, Fox Studios and Disney.

The fund for the competition was established in 1998 by Steven's parents, Earl and Leila Anseen Webster, his sister Silvia Anseen Webster, and many friends. Mrs. Webster's parents, the Rev. Nils Peter and Mrs. Augusta Sundberg Anseen, were a strong influence on Steven Webster.

The Rev. Anseen was an 1897 graduate of Augustana, and graduated from the seminary in 1902. Mrs. Anseen was talented in both voice and organ and served the Augustana Lutheran Church in several administrative capacities.
