Augustana, St. Ambrose sign master of science agreement
A new partnership is paving the way for Augustana College students to enter into the St. Ambrose University (SAU) master of science in exercise physiology program (MESP).
The agreement, signed Nov. 18, creates a specific pathway that allows Augustana students to meet the degree requirements established by the SAU master’s program.
Augustana students will be able to transfer up to eight credits from their undergraduate coursework to satisfy specific MESP course requirements. Additionally, students who have a 3.25 GPA and meet all additional requirements will be given automatic acceptance into the MSEP program.
Dr. Kimberly Murphy, director of the Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness and biology chair at Augustana College, said the agreement provides Augustana students a rich learning opportunity to build upon the skills and knowledge they gained during their undergraduate years and creates a direct pathway for students after they graduate.
“It opens doors to more educational and career opportunities,” Dr. Murphy said. “After completing the master’s degree, students are better prepared to help change lives and help improve the well-being of others.”
A representative of SAU will visit during the spring semester to provide interested Augustana students more information. Augustana students wishing to be accepted to the master’s program should apply to SAU by Jan. 31.
Dr. Murphy said she is excited about this partnership and the possibility of further engagement with SAU.
“We are already starting to explore other collaborations,” she said.
According to Nick Voth, clinical staff and academic advisor and recruiter for the St. Ambrose MSEP program, the agreement will also waive GRE admission requirements.
“I hope this agreement helps reduce some barriers to pursuing a graduate degree while also supporting enrollment in our program that has proven to meet the needs of students with varying career goals,” he said.
