Augustana surveying women on maternal health care in the Quad Cities

Augustana College’s Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness is leading a project to better understand maternal health experiences and outcomes for women in the Quad Cities. 

Women between the ages of 18-45 who have been pregnant within the past two years are invited to take part in the survey. The survey is seeking individuals who have given birth in the Quad Cities and/or used health care services in the Quad Cities during their pregnancy.

The survey has been reviewed and approved by the Augustana College Institutional Review Board. Community partners include the Healthy Pregnancy Coalition and the Healthy Outcomes Planning Task Force on Low Birth Weight. 

Center director Dr. Kimberly Murphy said information gathered through the 30-minute confidential survey will be used to guide more effective and targeted maternal care in the community. 

“We know a healthy baby begins with a healthy mother and that both mom and baby deserve great care,” said Dr. Murphy. “Augustana is proud to partner with local health care providers to improve maternal health, and we know this work ultimately leads to a healthier Quad Cities community.”

Founded in 2022, the Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness is an interdisciplinary center that strengthens campus and community well-being through applied student research, internships, community service and experiential learning. Projects led by the center have included water service line inventories, movement classes for older adults and contributing resources to and designing programs for a Rock Island community resource center.
