Corts elected as Psi Chi president
Augustana College professor of psychology Dr. Dan Corts has been named the 2015-2016 president of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology. Psi Chi has more than 1,100 chapters in the United States and abroad. Dr. Corts has advised Augustana's local chapter since 2002.
Psi Chi provides programming targeted to undergraduates at seven regional professional conferences annually, as well as the largest psychology meeting, the American Psychological Association (APA) convention. This includes poster presentations for undergraduate researchers, sessions on career planning and graduate school admissions. Psi Chi also has targeted programs to foster leadership and diversity, including conference programming and research grants.
"My favorite thing about Psi Chi is that our annual budget for grants and awards is over $400,000," Dr. Corts said. "We get to support students and faculty advisors with research grants, travel grants and awards for excellence in research and service."
Dr. Corts discovered his passion for psychology at Belmont University, where he earned his B.S., followed by a Ph.D. in cognition at the University of Tennessee. After post-doctoral work at Furman University, he came to Augustana College in 2000. He has been involved with Psi Chi for more than 10 years, serving on the Midwestern Steering Committee and Grants and Awards Committee, as associate editor for Psi Chi's peer reviewed journal and completing one term as midwestern vice-president.
This is the second year of his three-year term. He served as president elect in 2014-2015, and will serve as past president in 2016-2017.
