Francophone Film Festival Feb. 20-March 10
Five French-language films will be presented every Thursday Feb. 20-March 19 for the annual Francophone Film Festival. Films are free and the public is welcome.
Movies will start at 7 p.m. in the lower-level auditorium in the Olin Center.
Feb. 20: 'C’est quoi cette famille?!' (We Are Family)
In this 2016 French comedy, seven children from divorced parents, sick of being shared and always changing house every week, decide to make a stand and take their own decisions. (IMDB) Rated TV-MA/18+ with a run time of 99 minutes.
Feb. 27: Divines
In this 2016 French drama, a street teenager from a dysfunctional family from a banlieue (suburb) in Paris comes across a young dancer who turns her life upside down. (IMDB) Rated TV-MA/18+.
Director Houda Benyamina won the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film also was an official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section.
March 5: l Lost My Body
A story of Naoufel, a young man who is in love with Gabrielle. In another part of town, a severed hand escapes from a dissection lab, determined to find its body again. (IMDB) Rated (TV-MA/18+.
The 2019 French is an animated drama fantasy which won the Nespresso Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival., the first animated film to do so.
March 12: Prendre le Large (Catch the Wind)
A middle-aged factory worker’s life is upended when she follows her employer to Morocco. (IMDB) Rated PG-13/13+ with a run time of 103 minutes.
The 2017 French drama was screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
March 19: Atlantics
In a popular suburb of Dakar, Senegal, workers on the construction site of a futuristic tower, without pay for months, decide to leave the country by the ocean for a better future. Among them is Souleiman, the lover of Ada who is promised to another. (IMDB) Rated TV-14/16+.
The 2019 supernatural drama was directed by Mati Diop, in her feature directorial debut. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, and won the Cannes Grand Prix. It was selected as the Senegalese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
The Francophone Film Festival is presented by Augustana College World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; the Office of Student Life, Multicultural Programming Board and SLP.
