Pianist Han found teaching at Augustana an easy decision
Dr. Juliana Han traveled a long and winding road to her new job as assistant professor of music at Augustana College.
A Cincinnati inner-city native whose parents are from Taiwan, Han started piano lessons at age 5. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a law degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and master’s and doctorate degrees in music from the world-renowned Juilliard School.
“I was pretty picky in the postings I wanted to apply to,” Han said. “This one caught my eye — music in a liberal-arts setting. I had grown up in that; music at Harvard was the reason I fell in love with music.
“This really appealed to me. I knew students were open-minded, wanted music as part of their lives,” she said of Augie. “When I came on campus, I felt very supported, and I liked everybody here."
