Seniors inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta

Six graduating seniors were inducted into Augustana's chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta international sociology honor society in May.

The new members are:

Maria Catalano, a psychology and sociology (social welfare) major from Bloomingdale, Ill.

Julie Cullotta, a sociology (social welfare) major from Des Plaines, Ill.

Ruth Jesse, a sociology (social welfare) and women's and gender studies major from Moline, Ill.

Eleanor Nolan, a sociology and women's and gender studies major from Northbrook, Ill.

Sara Ruthberg, a communications studies and sociology major from Lisle, Ill.

Emily Wilder, a psychology and sociology major from Spring Grove, Ill.

In order to be selected for membership, undergraduates must have majors in anthropology or sociology and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

AKD is dedicated to excellence in academics, the research or social problems, and other social and intellectual events that lead to the improvement of the human condition. It provides honoraria for initiation speakers, funds students travel to regional meetings, and funds research symposiums.

AKD was founded in 1920 and became affiliated with the Association of College Honor Societies in 1967. AKD also is affiliated with the American Sociological Society.

Membership is open to undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members from active chapters. Currently, there are more than 115,000 members in Alpha Kappa Delta and more than 650 chapters.
