Student employment reminders for supervisors
The Payroll Department staff would like to share the following reminders for supervisors hiring student employees.
New student employees (primarily first-year):
Students may stop by the Payroll Department in the Business Office Monday through Friday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. for help with payroll documentation (I-9). These hours are blocked out so meetings are not scheduled. Payroll will be available to help outside of these hours if necessary.
Students will need the following physical documents (no copies) in order to complete the I-9:
- Domestic: Passport or driver's license/school ID/other List B document and U.S. Social Security card/birth certificate/other List C document
- International: Passport, I-94 and I-20. The student will also need to obtain a Social Security card and to schedule an appointment with the Social Security Administration.

Once a student has completed the I-9, they will receive an invitation to set up an account in Paycor and complete the employment steps (tax withholdings, direct deposit, etc.). Once all steps are completed, Payroll will confirm with the supervisor and determine when the student can begin working.
Current/existing student employees:
All supervisors should have provided lists to Payroll so students can be set up in TimeClock Plus. If you have not yet provided lists or completed the forms, please do so ASAP.
Student hours:
During the academic year (outside of breaks), student employee hours are limited to 10 hours per week for domestic students and 20 hours per week for international students. During the winter break, J-Term break and spring break, all students are able to work full-time.
