Students plan Green Week April 18-23
Augustana student groups are planning a number of hands-on activities for Green Week April 18-23. Their goal is to promote environmental issues and encourage campus to connect with nature.
“We are all excited for Green Week!” said Genevieve Rodriguez, Sierra Club president.
Working together for the week events are Augustana Local Agriculture Society, Augie Acres, Biology Club, Geography Club,Global Affect, Greeks Go Green, Sierra Club, Students for Sustainability and Udden Geology Club.
Schedule
Tuesday-Friday
Students for Sustainability will sell reusable grocery bags to raise money for a donation to the Scott County Lead Crisis.
All supporting campus organizations will sell fun, Earth-inspired products.
Sierra Club will display art sculptures in the library on the second floor made by club members from recyclable materials.
Wednesday, April 19
Slough Cleanup: From 1:30-5 p.m., all are invited to participate in a Slough clean-up hosted by Sierra Club. Volunteer should start at the gazebo at any time during that period. The club will have a canoe and row boats to pick up litter in hard-to-reach areas.
Gloves, buckets, trash bags and garbage grabbers will be supplied. There is a chance to win prizes based on who cleans the most trash.
Natural skin product demo: From 4-5 p.m., the Geography Club will host Mary Paoli of Whoa Nelli, who will demonstrate how to make your own lip balm, soap, etc. from natural products. This will be held in Swenson 211.
Every student who attends will get to make and take home a skin-care product of their own. A signup sheet will be emailed.
Thursday, April 20
Edible Campus Planting: From 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Augustana Local Agriculture Society will conduct a campus-wide planting project. Students can get involved in helping plant different kinds of vegetation around campus for beautification and to solve erosion issues. Students who wish to participate should come to the gazebo.
Augustana alumni Tom Lundahl and John Lucken made this event possible with their donation of 40 Aronia Berry bushes.
Film: At 8 p.m., Global Affect will show the film "Seed: The Untold Story" in Olin Auditorium.
Friday, April 21
Invasive Species Removal: From 9 a.m.-2 p.m., volunteers will work to remove invasive species around Olin and Seminary. Volunteers should start at Olin to get directions.Knowledgeable volunteers and members from the Riverbend Wildland Trust will be present to give direction and help students.
The Use of High Precision Terrestrial LiDAR Data and Cyclone Suite to Analyze Fluvial Processes: Udden Geology Club will present this talk by Dr. Kang and senior Mark Lundine at 3:45 p.m. in Swenson 106.

Earth Day March for Science.
Sunday, April 23
Planting at the Garden: Augustana Local Agriculture Society will have a planting day from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Augie Acres. These fruits and vegetables will be sold on-campus. Augie Acres is providing homemade lunch and service hours.
