Summer mental health resources
Summer is here, and we wanted to highlight all the mental health resources available to you both locally and abroad throughout the summer months.
TimelyCare
TimelyCare is a free telehealth platform available to all enrolled students in the fall 2025 semester. In the states, you can access medical and mental health care 24/7 with a clinical provider. The provider will be someone who is licensed in the state you are in at the time of the appointment.
Internationally, you can use the on-demand TalkNow platform to connect with a mental health provider 24/7. To use TalkNow internationally, students must use a US phone number or a US VPN. TimelyCare also provides in-session translation services for over 100 languages.
Uplift
Uplift is a telehealth platform that provides affordable therapeutic and psychiatric care. Uplift bills your insurance first, so you are only responsible for the co-pay, which can be as little as $0, depending on your insurance provider. Students can also pay out-of-pocket if they prefer.
Uplift can be used to start the process for ESAs, a mental health diagnosis, or psychiatric medication management.
Community providers
If you would like to meet with a therapist in your summer community, we recommend using MiResource and Psychology Today. These directories can connect you with local mental health care providers. Augustana’s counseling website also has a directory of providers in the Quad Cities.
Emergency care
If you are ever feeling suicidal or believe you are a danger to yourself or others, you can call 988 or 911 to be connected to a trained crisis or emergency service personnel.
If you are in the state of Illinois, you can access mental health crisis services through a local provider. A directory of Illinois providers by city is available online.
If you are in Eastern Iowa, you can call 855-581-8111 to be connected to a mental health crisis provider.
Outside of Illinois, it is recommended you visit your states’ health department website, so you can familiarize yourself with the crisis services available to you.
If you are outside of the United States, it is recommended that you discover either local providers or your country’s crisis services, depending on how your country is governed or set up culturally. The World Health Organization provides support and guidance for mental health care abroad.
Intensive care
In the United States, there are different levels of mental health care, intended to provide you with the most appropriate care at the right time. If you believe you need more mental health care than weekly or biweekly individual therapy, you may want to look into more intensive levels of care like intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) or partial hospitalization programs (PHPs). Most states are divided into mental health regions with certain community agencies providing these intensive services to their region. Both Illinois and Iowa are states which have their mental health services distributed by geographic regions.
In the Quad-Cities, there are several intensive service options like the Robert Young Center, Eagle View Behavioral Health, and Pasadena Villa Outpatient.
We hope you have a safe, happy, and healthy summer break, and we look forward to next year together.
