Wilkerson ’19 named 176th Academic All-American

Brandon Wilkerson ’19 has been named an Academic All-American in men’s track and field, the 176th student-athlete in Augustana history to win the honor.

Augustana is ranked seventh nationally for its number of Academic All-Americans. The college is No. 1 in men’s track and field with 33.

Academic All-Americans are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America in a program dating back to 1952.

Wilkerson finished his athletic career with the Vikings by placing seventh in the 3000 steeplechase at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Championships at the end of May. He placed sixth in the same event as a junior in 2018.
 
Wilkerson graduated with a personal best time of 9:06.47, which ranks sixth in school history. He also won his second CCIW steeplechase title this year and placed fourth in the 5000. During the indoor season, he finished fourth in the conference at 3000 meters and sixth at 5000.
 
In cross country, Wilkerson placed 10th in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin as both a junior and a senior and finished 56th and 72nd, respectively, at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.
 
He was the team's Most Valuable Performer in cross country in the fall of 2018 and he served as team captain in both cross country and track and field.
 
Wilkerson graduated on May 19 with a GPA of 3.82 in mathematics and secondary education. He came to Augustana from Tri-Point High School in Stelle, Ill.
 
He is a finalist for both the CCIW's “Man of the Year” award and the NCAA’s Postgraduate Scholarship. He was also the winner of the CCIW’s “Jack Swartz Award” in the fall of 2018.
