The Augie Abroad Grant (formerly the Passport Grant) is a need-based scholarship of $1,000 awarded to 30 Augustana students annually to support their participation in an Augustana faculty-led study away program in January, June, or summer.
Grant awards are applied directly to the cost of the Augustana program, acting as a discount on the program expense. Funds cannot be used on a program that is not led by an Augustana faculty member.
Students must have paid a $300 deposit to a faculty-led or summer study away program to be eligible to apply for the Augie Abroad Grant.
Now accepting applications for faculty-led J-term programs running in academic year 2025-2026.
The grant application deadline is March 17, 2025.
Grant winners will be notified by the IOP office when the winners have been selected.
Students may combine this grant with Augie Choice if they are eligible for Augie Choice for the program selected. Preference will be given to first-time study abroad participants.
The Augie Abroad Grant is open to first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
While this is primarily a need-based grant, consideration of the quality of the application and the application essay will factor into the grant award process.
Grants are awarded to pay for program costs of the student’s first choice. Students who are awarded a grant and then opt for a different program than the one indicated may be reevaluated for grant eligibility.
All grants must be used toward the expenses of a faculty-led study away program or summer study away program for which the grant was awarded. Students who defer their participation beyond that year forfeit the grant and must reapply in the next grant cycle to be reconsidered.
Students who are awarded a grant and opt not to enroll in the program will not receive the grant funds.
Students may not request the grant funds as cash. They are applied as a discount towards the Augustana fee for the study away experience.
In most circumstances, the Augie Abroad Grant funds will be applied to your student account within the semester that you are studying abroad.
