Gain the skills, experiences and self-knowledge necessary to stay on track for future career success with the Viking Score

You can receive rewards each academic year by earning Viking Score points.

• Earn 40 Viking Score points from Career Exploration activities to get an Augie decal.

• Earn 40 Viking Score points from Career Preparation activities and get an Augustana College padfolio.

• Earn 20 Viking Score points from Career Ready activities (either path) and get an Augustana business card holder and 30 free business cards.

• Accumulate a Viking Score of 100 points by April 30 of your senior year and you'll receive an invitation to the Viking Score Banquet. This end-of-the-year event celebrates students. Each student may invite one guest who has been supportive of their career success throughout their college career. Students will also receive a graduation cord indicating their Viking Score of 100!

Points will be added to your Viking Score once you complete the following activities:

Career exploration activities

• Drop-in for a CORE Orientation with a CORE Ambassador (2 pts)

• Complete a career exploration activity with your career coach (6 pts)

• Research career fields of interest or career options for your major; complete the career research activity and share your findings with your career coach (6 pts)

• Conduct at least one informational interview with alumni or professionals in your career field of interest (6 pts)

• Give back while learning new skills through 10 hours of volunteer or community service (4 pts)

• Pick up extra work hours through the Flexible Employment Program (FEP) (2 pts)

• Join a student organization and attend at least one meeting (2 pts)

• Develop a clear and specific career goal by completing the career goal activity and share it with your career coach or attend a career goal development workshop (6 pts)

Career preparation activities

• Meet with your career coach to create an action plan for gaining career-related experience (6 pts)

• Complete your Handshake Profile (2 pts)

• Develop a complete LinkedIn Profile (2 pts)

• Complete requirements for an internship, research or other career-related experience (10 pts)

• Attend a career fair; several are offered annually such as ProFair or I-74 Grad Fair (4 pts)

• Meet with a career mentor for a resume review (4 pts)

• Write a cover letter the be customized for each position or program; have it reviewed (4 pts)

• Develop your interviewing skills through interview prep or a mock interview with your career coach or career professional (6 pts)

• Develop and practice your elevator pitch with your career coach (4 pts)

• Discuss your interviewing attire with a career professional for feedback (4 pts)

• Meet with your career coach to discuss progress on your action plan (6 pts)

Career ready: Graduate school path activities

• Meet with your career coach to develop your post grad plan (6 pts)

• Research graduate/professional school programs in your career field of choice (4 pts)

• Develop a target list of organizations (4 pts)

• Gather names and contact information for people you have asked to serve as references or write letters of recommendation (4 pts)

• Write a personal statement for post-grad service or graduate/professional school; have it reviewed by your career coach (4 pts)

• Meet with your career coach to discuss progress on or confirm you post grad plan (6 pts)

Career ready: Full-time employment plan activities

• Meet with your career coach to develop your post grad plan (6 pts)

• Develop a target list of organizations (4 pts)

• Gather names and contact information for people you have asked to serve as references or write letters of recommendation (4 pts)

• Meet with your career coach to discuss progress on or confirm your post grad plan (6 pts)
