Linh Hoang: Untitled 1
Artist statement
Photography has always been my passion and a way for me to communicate with numerous people. My work is primarily minimalist and focuses on storytelling. Through working at Augie Athletics Department, I spent over 50 hours this semester documenting the games through my photographs. Taking action shots has taught me to always pay attention to what is going on as a consequence of being hit a couple of times.
For my senior inquiry, I chose football as my main subject to work on. I am inspired by the football posters from the ‘70s because the warm colors portray nostalgic feelings within my audience. Photographs on textured backgrounds are the perfect medium for my posters to highlight the game and to show my aesthetic way of designing.
By color grading the hues, highlights, and saturations, the final posters work best with yellows and greens. These warm tones combined with bold fonts create an excitement, thus making the photographs come alive. Blue and gold are mainly used to bring out the Augie spirit, while the placement of materials creates a focal point for the players in a composition.
