Closing and move-out information

Closing time, spring 2024

Students should plan to move out within 24 hours of completing their last exams, but no later than noon on Saturday, May 25. Use housing self-service beginning in late April to indicate your move-out time or to request an extension.

More detailed information will be sent to on-campus residents from the Office of Residential Life. Talk with your community advisor if you have any questions.

Move-out

Students should plan to move out within 24 hours of completing their final exams. All residence halls and TLAs close at noon on Saturday after exams.

Those participating in commencement or flying internationally may request a housing extension through noon on the Monday after exam week. Detailed move-out instructions will be provided by the Office of Residential Life to all students in May.

Summer housing

Students who plan to stay in the Quad Cities during the summer months may live on campus. See the Summer Housing page to apply.

TLA summer bridge housing

TLA residents with a lease to a rental property beginning on June 1 may request to remain in their TLAs for an additional fee until June 1 so they can move directly from their TLAs to their rental properties.

Since some TLAs will be used for summer housing and others may have maintenance projects scheduled, summer bridge housing is not guaranteed and may not be available for all TLAs each year. Students can request summer bridge housing through housing self-service beginning in late April.

Storage

While Residential Life does not provide summer storage for students in college facilities, we have partnered with Collegeboxes by U-Haul as our preferred storage partner to provide summer storage and shipping services for students.

Students are also welcome to make their own storage arrangement with any local storage companies.

Donations

Drop-off locations will be available in the lobbies of the residence halls for students wishing to donate clothing, non-perishable food, electronics, or other goods. Please continue to take all trash and recycling to the appropriate dumpster.

Tips to avoid billing at move-out

Start cleaning and packing early.

Return your key. Make sure to check out with your CA when you are leaving and return your key before you go.

Work with your roommates to make sure shared spaces get cleaned. Damage billing will be shared in common areas unless someone claims responsibility.

Take all trash to the dumpsters. Any trashed removed from the building by staff will be billed to the room or floor where it was found.

Donate. There will be drop-off locations available for any clean, unwanted, reusable clothing, goods, or non-perishable food.

Return furniture to its original configuration. If you removed or dismantled any furniture, make sure it gets put back where you found it when you moved in.
