Are you where you thought you'd be four years ago?
I am in a better place than where I thought I would be four years ago. I came to college to improve upon my academics, but it is obvious that I have also bettered myself as a person. Today, I have a clearer view of where I stand morally, politically and socially.
What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?
I have what it takes to go outside my comfort zone, to lead a group of peers and to live independently.
A peak experience?
Augustana has provided me with the opportunity to study abroad in Spain, France, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Each experience was fantastic in its own right, but I feel especially moved by my time in Vietnam. I am forever a different, finer person because of it.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
My mother and father have offered me endless support. The faculty members of the business department are wonderful. I particularly appreciate the help I have received from Dr. Amanda Baugous and Dr. Ann Ericson; they truly care about Augustana's students and their success.
Advice for this fall’s incoming (Class of 2016)?
It is important not to lose sight of your goal. It is going to be hard to adjust to college life at first, but you will find your niche, and Augustana will become a second home.
“April’s curiosity about other cultures is what we desire in students with an international business major. She completed a second major in Spanish, and her sense of adventure led her to overseas academic experiences in Spain and Vietnam. April will be a valuable addition to the family business as it expands its international business dealings.”
