Why did you choose to attend Augustana?
After visiting Augustana, I knew it was where I was going to end up. I loved the campus, the students and teachers I interacted with, and I knew that I would be more than just a number.
Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?
Not even close! I started college with an undecided major, and after four years I have accomplished more than I ever imagined. I also did not expect to make as many close friendships as I have made throughout my experience at Augie.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
All the accounting, business and geography professors have been outstanding. I can tell they love their jobs and that shows in the classroom. A special thanks to Dr. John Delaney, my accounting advisor; Mrs. Mamate Marmé, my business advisor; and Dr. Reuben Heine, my geography advisor. These three have gone out of their way to make sure I had the chance to succeed at Augustana.
A peak experience?
My three-month study abroad trip to East Asia was by far a peak experience for me. I traveled to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China while learning about the culture, geology and economy of these wonderful places. I tried new things, met amazing people and visited incredible places that I never would have been able to without this program. I believe the study abroad programs are one of Augustana's major strengths.
What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?
I learned that you can do anything you put your mind to, and still have time for fun! Augustana gave me the chance to branch out into many areas of life allowing me to discover new passions, such as traveling, that I will continue to pursue post-graduation.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I used my Augie Choice on East Asia term, which is a three-month study abroad program through Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my professors, my friends and the campus...especially in the fall!
Advice for the Class of 2018?
Get involved in new clubs, sports and classes. Stay open to and take advantage of the opportunities that Augustana provides!
"Michelle has been a real pleasure to work with. She is a terrific student and a fine example of someone who has truly grown intellectually and professionally these past four years. I don’t recall many students who have completed two majors and a minor, had internships with three different firms, competed in a varsity sport, and participated in foreign study all in four years. Plus, she has been nominated for a fourth internship with the Financial Accounting Foundation — arguably the best internship an accounting student can complete in the United States. To say Michelle has gotten the most of her experience at Augie would be quite an understatement."
