Why Augustana?
I was recruited to play soccer here, and as soon as I walked on campus, I loved the school. I really liked the environment and the friendliness of the school.
Are you where you thought you’d be when you first came to campus?
For the most part, yes. I knew I was interested in math, but I was still deciding on being an actuary or going to graduate school. I also had a really strong interest in finance, which is what drew me into getting a second major. Being able to combine my interests in business and math is what pushed me into becoming an actuary.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
My family has always been very supportive of me and without a doubt are a major reason for where I am today. My mom went to Augustana so she was really excited when I chose to come here. My coaches have also helped me grow as well as the many great professors that I have had.
A peak experience?
It is hard to pick just one experience, but the first that comes to mind is my summer soccer trip to Trinidad and Tobago. It was an amazing experience. We got to play soccer against some local teams, learned a lot about the culture there and volunteered our time with Habitat For Humanity.
What surprised you?
I learned how rewarding it is to be put in difficult situations and struggle, not just take the easy way out. It isn’t always easy to take challenging classes or try to improve yourself as an athlete, but when you work really hard and accomplish your goals, it is well worth it.
How did you use Augie Choice?
I used my Augie Choice to go to Trinidad and Tobago.
What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss being around all the great people at Augustana. I have had many great professors and coaches, as well as friends who I will stay in contact with for the rest of my life.
Advice for the Class of 2021?
Don't be afraid to be put in new situations or to experience new things. Augustana is a great place to learn and get outside of your comfort zone. Enjoy your time here as much as possible because it flies by.
“Dominick already had a lot of quantitative savvy when he joined our office. But he took the initiative to ask if we could create a project that matched his talents with his career goals. We gave him a very complicated assignment that required months of programming and problem-solving. In the end, his work turned a month-long project into something that could be finished in a few days. Throughout, he has been an excellent learner and has shown a real maturity in developing new skills that will serve him very well after college.”
