Why Augustana?

I chose Augustana because I knew I wouldn't just be a number here and would be able to actually get to know my professors and classmates. I also knew I would be able to learn better in an environment with smaller classes, and the campus is incredible and has such a homey feel.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

I'd say I'm on the right path to be where I want to be. Augustana has helped me realize what I want to do is completely possible, and I was able to have some exposure to that through classes and working in Special Collections for two years.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

First, my family for all their love and support no matter what I do.

Every professor I have had the chance to learn from ... as every one of them has been inspiring. I am very grateful to my advisors, Dr. Leech and Dr. Morse. They have been amazing and were always willing to provide meaningful feedback and helpful advice for things even beyond their classes.

Finally, a huge thank you to Pedro Bidegaray in the study away office. He was a huge help to me this past year by helping me make sure my study abroad experience happened at all. Because of COVID-19, it was up in the air for a while.

Peak experience?

Being able to study abroad for a semester in South Korea even during a global pandemic. My Senior Inquiry focused on the Korean War so to have a chance to visit the place where that conflict occurred and learn more is unreal. This experience has been life-changing in so many ways.

What surprised you?

How much I have changed during these four years. I feel like I really matured and grew as a person. I have been able to experience so much and face new challenges that have benefited me.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used my Augie Choice to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, for a semester during my senior year.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss Augustana's supportive environment and beautiful campus. It really is a great place filled with amazing people and so many opportunities.

Advice for the Class of 2025?

Do what truly makes YOU happy, not what you think will make others happy or what others want you to do.

"Morgan is going to go far. Her research has already taken her — figuratively at least — to places few have been before. How many people in the world have studied North Korean museums? Morgan has, and with great insight."
