Why Augustana?
I chose Augustana because of the personal feel in the classroom and around campus. I went to a small high school where I was able to form relationships with teachers, and Augustana was able to provide me with the same thing.
Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?
I am nowhere near where I thought I would be as a freshman. I came to Augie aiming to be in a science-related major but wound up finding my calling in accounting. Augustana has provided me with many more opportunities than I ever would have thought. For example, when I started my college career, I never thought I would spend more than half of it working for John Deere.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
In the academic world, there are a few professors who stick out during my time at Augustana. Dr. Bryce Palar has had the largest impact on my learning. He has taught me how to think outside of the box while still applying the principles learned in the classroom. He has helped me build a foundation of academic and life lessons that will help me after graduation.
Another professor who comes to mind is Dr. John Delaney. I have to give Dr. Delaney the credit for getting me into the accounting world. Without his persistence in pushing me to give it a try, I may never have stumbled upon a major I ended up loving. Dr. Delaney has also helped me build my professional network throughout my time here.
I would also like to thank my family for always supporting me throughout my life.
Peak experience?
My peak experience was watching my friends on the baseball team win the CCIW Championship during junior year. I will always remember the excitement and celebration after the final out.
Another peak experience was finally getting to sign the dotted line for a full-time offer to start my career.
What surprised you?
During Welcome Week as a freshman, we had a guest speaker. He said that we were sitting next to our future best friends, and even someone who may be the best man or maid of honor at our wedding. Surprisingly enough, he was right! I met my best friend who I call a brother now in the same group the speaker was referencing.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I was able to use my Augie Choice to pay for professional attire for my summer internship. It also allowed me to pay for transportation costs to and from the office.
What will you miss the most?
I am going to miss the close-knit community that Augustana provides. There is nothing like only being a few minutes' walk from all of your friends.
Advice for the Class of 2028?
Do not be afraid to ask your professors questions. They are all here to help you build your skills before entering the real world. They are all very willing and enthusiastic to help if you are willing to ask.
"Alex is described by his friends and colleagues as reliable, accountable, a role model, an all-around great person, and one who’s never afraid of a challenge. The challenge Alex has taken to better himself while keeping an unbelievably rigorous schedule is a challenge most wouldn’t even attempt. He influences people to be better and strive for excellence, while setting new standards for his peers. Alex, you have impressed me greatly. It’s been an honor to be part of your life for the past few years and hopefully many more to come."
