Why Augustana?
I chose Augustana because of its athletic and academic prowess. Clearly, Augustana's rich basketball program was a big draw for me, but also the smaller class sizes and close-knit community feel made Augie an easy choice for me when I was a senior in high school.
Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?
I'm nowhere where I thought I'd be when I first stepped on campus. I've grown tremendously as a person, leader and friend during my time here. I've also developed academic abilities, and I'm proud to say I've become significantly more well-rounded in my time at Augie.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
The people who were most influential during my time here were my newfound friends, my family and faculty, such as Professor Mamata Marmé (business department) and Dr. John Delaney (accounting department).
Peak experience?
The basketball team's trip to Greece during the summer going into my junior year.
What surprised you?
I was pleasantly surprised by numerous different opportunities Augustana provided me through which to develop and grow. Also, I was always impressed by Augie's ability to get different people from different cultures to be able to positively interact with one another.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I used my Augie Choice for the basketball team's trip to Greece.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my friends and the small memories I made on a day-to-day basis.
Advice for the Class of 2028?
Try to live in the present during your time here at Augie. It's easy to look ahead at life after college and all your future plans, but my most fulfilling moments were my experiences where I was locked into the current moment.
"Brett has been a part of a unique time in the history of Augustana on several fronts and has found a way to rise above each challenge he's faced along his path, with a unique blend of commitment, discipline and consistency. His ability to persevere through the ups and downs with compassion and selflessness, not to mention a smile on his face, permeated our campus and made this a better place to call home!"
