Why Augustana?

I felt like Augie was the school that provided me with the best chances to grow individually and academically. The tight-knit community I experienced during my time here, along with strong student mentorship from professors, reassured me that I made the right choice.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

When I first visited campus, I thought this was the place I wanted to be for the next four years.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

My parents helped and made great sacrifices just to provide me with an opportunity for a good education. My friends made me smile and laugh through the tough days of college. My professors opened academic doors for me as well as kept me confused on a higher level.

Peak experience?

The Geology 105 trip during my freshman year is an all-time peak Augie experience. Other geology students and I got to travel around the western U.S. all while learning introductory geology concepts through rigorous fieldwork.

It was my first time traveling to that part of the U.S. so I also enjoyed learning about the regional culture as well as seeing new landscapes.

What surprised you?

I was surprised by the amount of opportunities to do student research. I came into Augie expecting to do research, but I wasn't expecting to be presented with ideas and even opportunities to do research within the first semester.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used my Augie Choice to go abroad and partially fund an internship with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

What will you miss the most?

This might be a wild take, but I will definitely miss late-night study sessions at the Swenson study room. I spent countless nights doing labs and studying for exams there. The memories, probably not the exam content, made there will be missed.

Advice for the Class of 2029?

Be open to your professors about your interests! It's okay if your interests change over time, but being vocal about them will expose you to more opportunities.

"As a geography and geology double major with a minor in GIS technology, Eulle understands the science and the social science of the Earth, and has harnessed the power of GIS mapping, drone and remote sensing technologies to mitigate geohazards. Last summer Eulle initiated an internship halfway across the world with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, continuing this important work throughout his senior year. Laudably, Eulle developed GIS methodology to help refine the Philippine National Volcanic Threat Assessment report!"
