Why Augustana?

After visiting Augustana, I knew it was the right school for me. The campus was beautiful, and the professors were enthusiastic about what their programs had to offer.

Additionally, Augustana's student-to-professor ratio allows for a deeper connection with faculty, which was important to me when choosing a college.

Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?

When I arrived at Augustana my freshman year, I had no idea what was in store for me. There have been so many opportunities I never would have imagined, such as working at the costume shop or studying in Bath, England.

Who helped you get to where you are now?

Everyone in my life has influenced my experience at Augustana. My family has always encouraged me to pursue my interests, allowing me to study what I am truly passionate about.

My professors have been immensely supportive throughout my time at Augustana, challenging me and encouraging me when I needed it. I am especially thankful to the English and creative writing department, as well as Dr. Erin Freund in the music department, for their endless support.

Lastly, my friends and peers have made my time at Augustana truly special, and I wouldn't be where I am without them.

Peak experience?

My study abroad at Bath Spa University in Bath, England.

What surprised you?

I was surprised by how many opportunities Augustana has to offer despite being a small school. There are so many opportunities for community engagement, both on and off campus.

How did you use your Augie Choice?

I used my Augie Choice to partially fund my study abroad at Bath Spa University.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss everyone with whom I have connected during my time at Augustana, and the familiarity I feel whenever I am on campus.

Advice for the Class of 2029?

It can be easy to get caught up in the idea that you have to do as much as possible to get the most out of your college experience. I think it's better to reflect on your own priorities and what you want to put your time and energy into.

"It takes three talents and dispositions to succeed in life: You must be good at what you do. You must be reliable. And you must be pleasant to work with. I can’t think of a student who embodies these ideals better than Lainey. She’s a terrific writer, an outstanding critic, a dependable leader and a profoundly generous colleague. She’s also brimming over with intellectual curiosity and a high spirit of adventure. The sky’s the limit for Lainey, and I’m thrilled to see where she will go."
