Viking Connections: Abbey Ward
Abbey Ward is a conservation resources specialist with University of Illinois, working alongside the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. She is working on a private lands project to help landowners convert flooded/low yield crop fields into conservation easements. She serves as the bridge between scientist and landowners, monitors current property enrolled in the program, and helps with restoration efforts on the properties. She works closely with NRCS and SWCD offices across the state to enhance the program.
"I am interested in participating in Viking Connections because when I was a student I was overwhelmed by the post-college job field. The alumni in my field that I talked to really helped me focus my search when looking for jobs. I have a wide variety of job experience and trainings that I can use to help guide soon to be grads when entering the work force. In my current job, a large part of my role is working with state and federal biologists, ecologists, researchers, and many other partners in the conservation field. As the bridge between the public and scientists, I have a good understanding of how my area of expertise functions."
