Annual tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe set for Dec. 10

The Office of Multicultural Student Life at Augustana College invites students and members of the community to the annual Tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe to celebrate and learn about Mesico's most popular religious and cultural image.

This free event will take place on Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m., in Centennial Hall (3703 7th Ave.).

When Our Lady of Gaudelupe appeared to Juan Diego in 1531, the story of a "goddess" who brought the moon, stars and sun together under one God spread throughout Mexico. Thousands of native Mexicans converted to Catholicism, which helped bring peace to Mexico after the conquest by Spain.

The special commemoration will include a live performance by the Mariachi Monumental de Mexico, a mariachi band from Chicago. You are encouraged to wear traditional Mexican clothing, and may purchase roses at the event or bring your own to lay on the altar.
