King celebration

Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson was the keynote speaker at this year's annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Augustana's Centennial Hall.

The Power of One event also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

The Augustana Choir, Pentecostal Church of God Praise Dancers and the Community Gospel Chorus performed.

"The Power of One" award was presented to Dr. Ida Johnson, executive director of United Neighbors.

Robinson, a Washington Post columnist, has been featured on television for his political commentary, including shows such as MSNBC's "Hardball," "The Rachel Maddow Show" and NBC's "Meet the Press." He writes a twice-a-week column on politics and culture, contributes to the PostPartisan blog and hosts a weekly online chat.

His lecture was made possible by the Stanley Erikson Lectureship in Public Affairs.
