Delp introduced as men's basketball head coach

Director of Athletics Mike Zapolski announced Jordan Delp as the 18th head coach of Augustana men’s basketball at a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Carver Center.

"I have called this place home since attending Augie as a student-athlete and am dedicated to working tirelessly for our men and this program.”

"The servant leadership that Jordan has displayed the last nine-plus weeks while leading the Augustana men's basketball program is emblematic of who he is as a coach and a person — analytical, focused, passionate and prepared,” Zapolski said. “Jordan inherited a difficult situation and quickly established the trust of the team. He led them admirably with class and grace, and earned the opportunity to serve Augustana College as our next head men's basketball coach."

Zapolski added, "I look forward to working with Jordan to continue the positive momentum building within the program and position the Vikings to play meaningful post-season basketball games in March at the Carver Center."

Delp said he was honored to be named the head men’s basketball coach at Augustana. “This is a place I started coming to 25 years ago when I attended my first and only overnight basketball camp," he said. "I have called this place home since attending Augie as a student-athlete and am dedicated to working tirelessly for our men and this program.”

Delp took over and led the Vikings to six wins to close out the year to help clinch the program’s 18th CCIW Tournament berth in 19 seasons. Augustana enjoyed a three-game winning streak to end the home slate, with two of those wins coming by double figures.

“Thank you to our players for the toughness and togetherness they showed through a unique season,” Delp said. “I am proud of the growth they all made, and the resiliency shown. I also thank Coach Wildermuth and Coach LaMonte for their eagerness to go above and beyond, as well as our administration for their support of our players.”

A 2009 graduate of Augustana, Delp was brought on as a full-time assistant for the Vikings at the beginning of the 2021-22 season.

Prior to his return, Delp spent 12 years working as a basketball skills coach, starting his business in 2009 and transitioning to that role on a full-time basis in 2014. In that time, he worked extensively with 18 players that went on to have professional careers, including six in the NBA, and more than 100 who have played in college.

Delp played for the Vikings from 2004-09 under head coach Grey Giovanine. He was a second team All-CCIW selection in 2006-07, when he led a 22-6 league-champion team in scoring at 13.1 points per game and shot .449 from three-point range. He wrapped up his playing career with a 103-34 record, three CCIW championships, and two conference tournament titles.

“Thank you to everyone who has shown their support for our players, our program and myself,” Delp added. “Thank you to my family for what you have all taught and given me, and thank you to my wife, Megan, who has sacrificed so much and continues to provide unending support to me and our guys.”
