Holiday celebration on Dec. 4

Join us on Thursday, Dec. 4, for "An Augustana Christmas Tree Lighting & Holidays Around the World," a joyful afternoon that brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, neighbors and community leaders, as our campus community celebrates the traditions of the season through culture and connection.

This event brings together our signature Christmas tree lighting behind Old Main with a new Holidays Around the World expo and a holiday treats reception — all connected by a lighted luminary path to express the traditions of the season at Augustana.

"An Augustana Christmas Tree Lighting & Holidays Around the World - Tis the Season of Light and Community" includes several events and activities throughout campus. All events are free and open to the public.

Holidays Around the World
Dec. 4, 2 p.m.
Gerber Center Gävle rooms

Explore interactive, student- and campus-led exhibits showcasing the world’s many joyful traditions of the season. Each station will feature a hands-on activity — crafts, treats or cultural demonstrations. Gather at 4 p.m. for a festive storytime, and then follow a lighted luminary path from the Gerber Center to the Christmas Tree behind Old Main.

Lighting of the Christmas tree
Dec. 4, 5 p.m.
Outside Old Main

Celebrate the lighting of our Campus Christmas tree with remarks from Pastor Melinda Pupillo and caroling led by choir alumni under the glow of the fir tree.

Tree lighting reception
Dec. 4, 5:30 p.m.
Wilson Center

Experience many traditions of the season with treats and warm drinks.

This afternoon is a joyful expression of the many ways we celebrate during this season — some old, some new, all shared. It serves as an anchor to a week of Traditions of the Season at Augustana, much loved celebrations including Sankta Lucia, the Julbord Dinner and our Christmas at Augustana performance.
