Students present results from Rock Island water line survey

Augustana announced a partnership with the city of Rock Island to identify the city’s service lines in July 2022. The college’s Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness and Upper Mississippi Center assisted in gathering data for the multi-year initiative.

On Nov. 27, Dr. Jenny Arkle, Adriana Reyes '25, Zack Horve '24 and Erik Bergren '25 presented their results to the Rock Island City Council.

Over 12,000 residential homes were included in the survey, which accounts for 25 percent of inventory city-wide. However, with the use of predictive modeling, the project leaders are able to estimate the remaining 75 percent. The project is in compliance with the 2022 Illinois' Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act. The law requires cities to inventory lead service lines, implement replacements and coordinate financing strategies to fund this work.
