Tennis complex groundbreaking

Augustana, Rock Island break ground on Lincoln Park tennis complex

Administrators from the City of Rock Island and Augustana College broke ground on a six-court tennis complex at Lincoln Park, adjacent to campus. The project is slated to open for use by the college and the community in September.

Loiz ’23 is All-American in first year of competing

High jumper Gabriela Loiz '23 earned All-American status at the NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships in Rochester, N.Y. She is Augustana's first women's All-American in the high jump since 1997.

Vikings in the family

Rebecca Lorraine Smuck '23 of Thousand Oaks, Calif., is the 14th member of her family to graduate from Augustana in the last 100 years. Her May 27, 2023, graduation marked the 100th anniversary of the 1923 graduation of her great-grandmother, Lorraine Sellin Lundeen. With photos from Tredway Library’s Special Collections, Smuck decorated her cap to honor her family who came to Augustana before her.

Riding camels in the Sahara

Sunrise on the Sahara

When she decided to attend Augustana, Rachel Forman ’23 never anticipated watching a sunrise while riding a camel in the Sahara Desert.

Forman traveled to Morocco last January for her Morocco, Culture and Psychology J-term course. This image — taken by a camel-riding Forman of her fellow travelers across the sand dune — won honorable mention in the 2022-2023 Augie Abroad Photo Contest. See more photos.
