Spring welcome for all new students is Monday, Feb. 3 and Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025.

Monday, Feb. 3, 2025

8:30-9:30 a.m., Gerber Center for Student Life fireplace
Continental breakfast and check-in. Stop by the check-in area to pick up your orientation materials, Viking ID and other important materials. Parents and families are welcome to attend all morning sessions and enjoy lunch. Families welcome.

Viking ID picture station. Still need a picture for your Viking ID? We've got you covered. Remember to pick up your Viking ID at the Resource Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 1-3 p.m. Families welcome.

9-9:15 a.m., Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
A welcome address to Vikings and families, with presentations from Dr. Wes Brooks, Vice President and Dean of Student Life & Student Engagement; Farrah Roberts, Assistant Dean and Director of Student Well-Being and Resiliency; and others. Families welcome.

9:15-10 a.m., Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
"Setting Yourself Up for Success" presentation. Topics include billing and payments, financial aid awards, dining and Residential Life (including how to change rooms and/or meal plans, addressing allergies, Halal food and to-go boxes), and submitting medical form for proof of insurance. Families welcome.

10-10:20 a.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
"Getting Involved on Campus" presentation. Presenters include the Office of Student Life (OSL), Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity (OSID), Student Activities, Student Government Association and Greek Life. Families welcome.

10:30-11 a.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
"Academic Success" presentation. Learn about the Learning Commons, tutoring, Disability Services, asking for help, the academic calendar, FERPA, academic integrity and the honor code. We'll also discuss why you’re here, how it will benefit you, what graduates do, how you can help and how to navigate the curriculum. Families welcome.

11 a.m.-12 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
"Focusing on Your Wellbeing and Safety" presentation. Learn about counseling's campus services in person and online, asking for help, how to cope, the Genesis Clinic, the Office of Sexual Assault Prevention Education (OSAPE), Campus Safety and student conduct. Families welcome.

12-1 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life dining room 
Lunch. Families welcome

1 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms (Mandatory)
Advising and registration preview. The Office of Advising will present on what to expect for advising and registration tomorrow, and help you learn more about your Augustana degree.

1:30 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms
The Office of Student Life will share how to get involved on campus. Meet and greet peer mentors and cover what to expect during the week.

International students: 2-4:30 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle 3
"Immigration 101" session for international students holding J-1 and F-1 visas. Learn about Social Security and working on campus, led by Bobbie Tidball and Sumita Amrik (2 p.m.), OSAPE training led by Zachary Draves (2:30 p.m.), Immigration 101 by international advisor Juanita Treviño Perez (3 p.m.) and a presentation on culture shock led by Global Ambassadors (4 p.m.), plus trivia and giveaways led by OISSS.

2-4:30 p.m. (Location TBD)
Office of Student Life presentation.

5-6:30 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life dining room
Dinner with peer mentor groups.

7-9 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life dining center lobby (Optional)
Shopping adventure to Walmart and Marshalls. Free transportation provided: Take time to shop for school supplies, personal hygiene products, essential items, laptops, phone plans and more.

  • Transportation departs Gerber at 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
  • Transportation departs the shops at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Welcome presentation and overview of the day.

10:45 a.m.-12 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms
Learn about peer connections programming, presented by the Office of Student Life and Leadership.

12-1 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life dining hall
Lunch.

1-4 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life You Belong Here Lounge
Advising and registration. Students will have a chance to meet with an advisor and review their schedules. Check in at the You Belong Here Lounge, fourth floor, Gerber Center. A specific check-in time for each student will be shared via email on Feb. 3.

1-3 p.m. Gerber Center for Student Life Gävle rooms
Resource Fair. Connect with Augie offices, learn more about student clubs and organizations, get information on health insurance, and open a banking account with Quad Cities Bank & Trust. (Be sure to bring your passport to open a bank account.) You'll also pick up your picture ID. Free SIM cards will be available while supplies last.

4 p.m. (Location TBD)
